Marshview Community Organic Farm, Inc
Marshview Community Organic Farm (Marshview) is a five-acre farm located on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. We began in May 2004 as a youth-led community beautification project, and by 2007, we became the first certified organic farm on the island. Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of Beaufort County residents by preserving traditional Gullah cultural practices and preparing the next generation of Lowcountry farmers and chefs. We equip young people with the knowledge and experiences needed to become stewards of the land and leaders in their communities. Through our work, we have expanded the amount of organic farmland on St. Helena Island and empowered youth to value teamwork, entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and the connection between nutrition and health.
At the helm of Marshview are Mrs. Sara’ Reynolds Green, our CEO and Co-Founder, and her husband, Bill Green. Under their guidance, Marshview is managed from seed to harvest by our students, ages 8 to 18, alongside two part-time farm workers. Our scholars work after school and on weekends to cultivate the land, start seeds, nurture seedlings, plant gardens, weed, maintain crops, and harvest the bounty.
Beyond the farm, our scholars take part in a variety of ongoing community service projects that reinforce Gullah cultural preservation. Through these efforts, we create pathways to improve the economic, social, health, and cultural opportunities for local youth and families across St. Helena Island.

At Marshview Community Organic Farm, we provide local youth ages 8–18 with the educational tools and opportunities to improve the health and well-being of our community. Through hands-on learning in organic farming, sustainable agriculture, healthy eating, and Gullah cultural traditions, our scholars gain practical career experience, develop entrepreneurial skills, and promote a spirit of lovingkindness, volunteerism, and philanthropy. Our mission is to empower our community through education, celebration of the land, protection of its resources, and the creation of healthy, sustainable food systems. In doing so, we support local economies, foster economic growth and development, build generational wealth, and preserve and protect our cultural heritage.
We use the farm as a conduit to expand economic, social, health, spiritual, and cultural opportunities for youth and adults on St. Helena Island. Our work is implemented through our "Young Farmers & Chefs of the Lowcountry" training programs, which include:
